When my granddaughter turned 21, she celebrated by inviting family and friends to a Blue Man Show at Universal. I had never seen the show before, and it was great! I highly recommend it for good family entertainment. We had front row seats, and had to use the plastic ponchos that were given out to protect ourselves from their antics with paint! No photographing was allowed during the show, but I took some at the Meet and Greet after the show. The Blue Men don’t speak, but are very nice to pose with everyone who wants pictures with them. Here are some of my favorites…

Looking Back and to the Future

Happy New Year, Everyone. I hope your holidays were fun and restful. December was a busy month for family photo sessions! Packages of photographs can go a long way when divided up for individual gifts. Some of my favorites from these sessions are pictured above.
Looking back, 2008 was the best ever for Amelia Images! We photographed more weddings and newborns than ever before, along with family sessions mixed in. The “icing on the cake” is all the nice people we met, as well as our faithful returning clients! All of them are very much appreciated. Here’s hoping 2009 will bring more of the same. Newborn sessions are already scheduled for Spring babies! Hope the New Year brings the best for you!

Relay for Life

Good grief, Charlie Brown! I haven’t posted anything here since September! Number 1 on my list of New Year’s resolutions is going to be:”Remember to post on my blog”!
Last night I helped out at Club 14’s booth at the local Relay for Life. Club 14 is the fitness center where I’ve been a member for over 10 years. They’re a great bunch of folks, and I feel so much better when I can find time to work out three times a week.
Ok, I got off the subject–back to Relay for Life. They had a hippie theme, and even borrowed an old Volkswagen van to park in front of the tents. My job was to take pictures of people in front of(or in) the van and sell the prints. I had my laptop and a printer there, so I could turn out prints in about 15 minutes. Around 8:30 we lost power on our generator, so I was out of business withour a printer.
We had a nice crowd to stop by, and everyone was in an upbeat mood. As you can see from one of the photos, there was a large crowd of survivors. The serious part of the evening was when all lights were turned off except the luminaries around the track. Names of people who had lost their battles with cancer were read for 20-30 minutes. I was glad to have a small part in the fight against this terrible disease.

Followup on March Wedding

I enjoy hearing from couples whose weddings we’ve photographed after they’ve been “married folks” for awhile. One recent followup was from John Laboone and his lovely wife, Jan. Since their March wedding, John has become an avid gardener, and has been sending me photos showing the progress of his vegetables. In one of his e-mails, he described a delicious meal of eggplant lasagne prepared by Jan. Since my eggplant lasagne comes from the freezer section at Sam’s, I’d love to have your recipe, Jan.
John has also become a “doting grandfather”, and considers Jan’s three grandchildren his own. He’s a great photographer, and often sends pictures of the grandkids.
It’s good to hear from you folks, so keep the photos and news coming. Pictures from their wedding (including the grandkids)
can be seen on pages 2 and 3 of my wedding gallery.

Wedding Candids

Here are a few candids from the wedding we photographed July 19. The fourth photo, which was the bride’s idea, was taken before the wedding. They didn’t see each other before the ceremony, and in the picture she’s in the bride’s room and he’s right outside the door. After the picture was taken, he jokingly tried to pull her out of the room. Bad Groom! In the second picture, her expression says it all: “You wouldn’t dare!” They were nice and fed the cake to each other instead of smushing it in faces. To see more wedding pictures, and a few of her bridals, go to page 4 in the wedding gallery on my website. It was a beautiful, well planned wedding, and we enjoyed photographing it.

Two fun sessions–a baby and a bride!

Time flies when you’re having fun! It’s been exactly two weeks since my last post, and it seems like just a few days ago. The bride whose wedding we’re photographing Saturday, July 19 came in for her bridals last week. I once heard the saying, “If you want to have beautiful pictures, photograph beautiful people”. This is certainly true in her case, and she’s going to be a storybook bride! Sorry, I can’t post any images from her bridals yet, because the groom hasn’t seen her dress. Check back during the week of July 21.
The cute little guy in the pictures is Cutler Stokes Davis. He’ll be one in a few weeks, and his parents, Michelle and Stokes brought him for beach and studio birthday pictures. We started at the beach, and Cutler wasn’t very happy because he was so tired from the long trip from Woodbine, GA. (Plus we got our meeting place mixed up, and were an hour late finding each other.) But he held out long enough for some family shots and some of him playing on the beach towel. Next was a nap and lunch, and he was ready to go for his studio session. We got lots of smiles from him then, as you can see. Happy birthday, Cutler!

Engagement session at the beach
This is a couple whose wedding we’re photographing in July. Sometimes in the summer, it’s hard to schedule sessions at the beach because of afternoon showers. We had to postpone once because of rain, but the next afternoon was beautiful so it wasn’t much of a problem. I think they’re a good looking couple and nice people too, so I’m looking forward to their wedding.
Hey, this blogging is fun, and gets easier each time!

Getting Schooled on Seniors
![]()
I just got back from a photography workshop in Salt Lake City, Utah, and among many other things, I learned that I should have a blog, so here goes…
The workshop, “Get Schooled on Seniors” was taught by award winning photographer, Steve Harrington and his wife, Shelley. affectionally known as “Team Steve” (www.steveharrington.net). I’ve been an admirer of their work for a long time and jumped at the chance when I heard about their workshop. There were 30 photographers there, and it was really a great experience. For the first two days, Steve taught us how he takes his awesome images, both in the studio and on site. The third day, Shelley shared her Photoshop skills, which put the finishing touches on Steve’s images. Our models (above) were two beautiful high school seniors who were real troopers with 30 cameras pointed at them for hours at a time. My head is so full of everything I learned, that I’m still sorting it out, and can’t wait to use some of my new skills photographing “09″ seniors.
You’ll be able to see more of the Utah beauties in the senior gallery on my website, so check back in a few days.
